Obituary of Sandra Gerber

SOUTHINGTON-Mrs. Sandra R. (Shapiro) Gerber, 74, of Southington, passed away Wednesday Jan. 11, 2011 at Hartford Hospital. She was the wife of Steven E. Gerber. Mrs. Gerber was born in Boston, Mass., Sept. 1, 1937, a daughter of the late Oscar and Esther (Moseon) Shapiro, and was educated in the Boston school system. She had been a Southington resident for the past five years, moving here from Cheshire, where she had lived since 1981. She was a member of Congregation Kol Ami of Cheshire and a member of the Sisterhood of the Synagogue and a life member of Hadassah. She was a retired employee of the Hartford Insurance Group, retiring in 2001. Besides her husband of 52 years, she leaves one son, Scott H. Gerber and his wife Heather of Prospect; two daughters, Susan H. Gerber and her fiancé, Dr. Jeff Gudin of Cheshire and Stacey H. Gerber and her husband, Ray Esposito of Cheshire; one sister Carol Weiss and her husband Stanley of Boynton Beach, Fl.; 4 grandchildren, Kent and Sarah Gerber and Rachel and Ethan Esposito; 2 nieces, Michelle Persons of Dupont, Wash. and Jennifer Reif of Redwood City, CA. Funeral services will be held on Friday Jan. 13, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. Burial will be in Knights of Liberty Cemetery, Woburn, MA. with a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Shiva will be held at the Esposito residence 90 Winding Trail Lane, Cheshire on Saturday Jan. 14th from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday Jan 15th from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:30 pm until 9 p.m. and on Monday Jan. 16th from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Each evening there will be a Shiva Minyan at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America- Conn.
