Obituary of John Mraz
Mr. John E. Mraz, 87, of Waterbury died Monday December 29, 2008 at the Abbott Terrace Health Center after a short illness. He was the husband of Betty Jane (Pryor) Mraz and the late Patricia (McLaughlin) Mraz.
Mr. Mraz was born September 15, 1921 in Waterbury a son of the late John W. and Mary (Delaney) Mraz and was a lifelong Waterbury resident. He was a Tool and Die Maker at Truelove and Maclean for 25 years prior to his retirement. He was a 35 year Communicant and trustee of Saint Leo the Great Church where he was a Lector, an usher, a volunteer at Wednesday night bingo and was active in the choir and the Men's Association. John loved to sing and was known to break into song anytime and anywhere. He was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker, and occupied his retirement years doing interior painting and wallpapering for friends and family.
Besides his wife, he leaves his stepson, Gary A. Lynch, his step grandson, Andrew Lynch, nieces, Betty Strauss and Martha Lapman and her husband Daniel, his nephew, Nelson Bellmay and his wife Donna, grand nephews, Michael and Jonathan Strauss and Kevin and Kyle Bellmay and grand niece Kelly Bellmay. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Bellmay.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Mraz will be held at a time to be announced at Saint Leo the Great Church 20 Bentwood Drive in Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury 9 Holmes Avenue has care of arrangements.
