Obituary of Rose Anderson
Rose E. (Carey) Anderson, 92, of Naugatuck, CT, a 43 year resident of Naugatuck, and a former Staten Island resident, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury, CT, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised Rose Carey in Manhattan, she went to Julia Richman High School. She married native Staten Islander Ed Anderson in 1939, and they lived in the Inwood section of upper Manhattan and had two children there. They summered for years in bungalows in Great Kills and New Dorp. They moved to Staten Island in 1954, and settled at a new home in Dongan Hills in 1956. They moved to Naugatuck in 1965 due to her husband's job transfer. She was a homemaker all her life, but volunteered as a clerical assistant in blood drives.
She was widowed in 1985, after 46 years of marriage. She is survived by a son, Robert (Bob) of St. George, (Staten Island) and a daughter, Susan Leo of Naugatuck, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Her son Bob said, "We were not only lucky to have had her with us for so long, but that she was independent and healthy for 99 44/100ths percent of her life. Until very recently, she took care of her family much more than needed care herself. She saw and enjoyed five great-grandchildren."
A Private funeral will be held on Thursday Jan. 8th at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours.
