Obituary of Martha Hayes

Mrs. Martha (Beck) Hayes, 94, formerly of 3208 Ashlar Village, Wallingford and a former Naugatuck resident, died Wednesday Jan. 7, 2009 at the Masonic Geriatric Care Center in Wallingford. She was the widow of John W. Hayes, Jr. who died in 1981. Mrs. Hayes was born in Philadelphia, PA, Mar. 8, 1914, a daughter of the late George and Harriet (Denning) Beck and was educated in the local school system. She moved to Naugatuck in 1934. and was a graduate of the University of New Haven. She retired in 1965 from Peter Paul, Inc., where she was an accountant for over 33 years. While a Naugatuck resident, she was a member of the Congregational Church of Naugatuck and had been involved in many church and community activities. She was a former member of the former Evergreen Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She moved to Wallingford in 1991and was a member of the Wallingford Congregational Church. She leaves one step-son, John W. Hayes, III of South Easton, Mass.; 2 step-daughters Carol Hayes-Christianson of Gainesville, Fl. and Ethel Rudy of Bradenton, Fl.; 3 step-grandchildren and 2 great-step-grandchildren Private funeral services and burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
