Obituary of John DeCaprio

John Lloyd DeCaprio, 66, of Farview Dr. died Monday June 18, 2007 at St. Marys Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Louise J. (McGill)DeCaprio. Mr. DeCaprio was born Novenber 23, 1940 in Bronx, NY the son of the late Domenic and Grace (Fenton) DeCaprio. He graduated from high school and trade school and was a Welder for Pratt and Whitney for 34 years working in Overhaul and Repair. He worked in the Southington division for 25 years and the East Hartford division for the last nine years of his career. While at Pratt and Whitney, Mr. DeCaprio was a member of their Fire Brigade. He was also honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. Mr. DeCaprio was a 30 year resident of Cheshire who was a devoted father and husband, who volunteered for Special Olympics, was an assistant Cub Scout Leader and coached T-ball and Baseball. He was a volunteer firefighter for a short time while living in Watertown. He was also a CCD teacher for the Church of the Epiphany where he was a communicant. Mr. DeCaprio was an avid fisherman all his life and also enjoyed baseball. He enjoyed the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox. However his greatest love was his family. Mr. DeCaprio was a talented artist and craftsman and loved gardening, having many beautiful gardens. One of his other hobbies was his love for animals and birds. He enjoyed his birds PeeWee and Yawkey and leaves behind his beloved Africian Gray Odie. Besides his wife of 40 years, Mr. DeCaprio is survived by two daughters Christine Fagan and her husband John of Plainville and Laura DeCaprio of Cheshire; a son John DeCaprio Jr. of South Carolina; two brothers Nick of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and Louis of Bronx, NY; two sisters Catherine Garcia of Mamanaronick, NY and Mildred Donnelly of Elka Park, NY; four grandchildren Emily Louise and Michael John Fagan of Plainville and Taylor Sophia DeCaprio of Manchester and Angelina Christine DeCaprio of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews.Arrangements A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Church of the Epiphany. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Slater Funeral Home, 242 S.
