Obituary of Corinne Engstrom
Corinne Smith Engstrom died on Monday July 9, 2007 at Elim Park Baptist Home in Cheshire, CT. She had been predeceased by her first husband, Wilbur T. Smith, and her second husband, Lennart Engstrom; also, by her three siblings: C. Donald Romberg, Lillian R. Blakeslee and Jean R. Baker.Born in New Haven on October 1,1918 to Swedish immigrants Carl D. and Anna Melin Romberg, she attended schools in Hamden and Wallingford, graduating from Lyman Hall High School. Settling in North Haven with her first husband, a carpenter, she was a homemaker, kept the books for her husbands business and raised three children. After her husbands death, she remained a widow for 26 years and worked at the Union of Operating Engineers in Hamden. When she retired, she spent time with her grandchildren and traveled. A piano player herself, she thoroughly enjoyed her music. She was also an avid crocheter, creating beautiful afghans for her entire family.In 1991 she married Lennart Engstrom, with whom she shared 11 wonderful years. They continued to travel, visiting his children in CA and her family in Sweden.They resided at Elim Park Baptist Home. Mrs. Engstrom leaves behind her children: Judith Smith Barboni of Bristol, CT; Lynette (Lyn) Smith Patrick and her husband Bill of Norfolk, CT; and David W. Smith and his wife Judy of Lancaster, NH; as well as her step-children, Judy Engstrom Fisher of Wallingford and David Engstrom and his wife Nancy of San Diego, CA. Also, she leaves her grandchildren: Meghan Patrick Link and Kailyn Patrick Nadeau both of Norfolk, CT; Bradford Patrick of North Stonington, CT; Jennifer Smith of Lancaster, NH; Paul Barboni of Torrington, CT; and Christopher Smith of Royalton, VT. Also, great-grandchildren: Liam and Andrew Patrick; Connor Smith-Quigley, Ganon Smith; Kendra Link; and Hunter Smith. A memorial of the life of Mrs. Engstom will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13thin the Chapel at Elim Park, 150 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire. Burial will be immediately following in the Northford Cemetery, Northford, CT. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 242 S. Main St. is in charge of arrangements.
