Obituary of Frances DeLong

Mrs. Frances O. (Ruda) DeLong, 86, formerly of Kearney Dr., died Monday morning July 30, 2007 at St. Marys Hospital. Mrs. DeLong was born in Waterbury Dec. 1, 1920, a daughter of the late Eugene A. and Olive (McKinley) Ruda and granddaughter of the late Camilla and Oscar Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds was known as West Havens "Candy Man and invented "Taffy on the Stick, which later became known as the Lollypop. She was a member of the local Salvation Army and a former member of the Mad River Grange, the American Association of Retired Persons, the East End Senior Center and her hobbies included crocheting, crafts, playing Bingo, and going to the casinos. Her favorite motto was "Dont judge me until you walk a mile in my shoes. She was a retired employee of the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A & P), retiring in 1982 with over 29 years of service. She leaves three daughters, Phyllis St. Hilaire and her husband Robert of Rome, GA., Bonnie Meyer and her husband Lawrence of Sandy Hook and Jacqueline King and her husband August King, Jr. of Waterbury; one sister Jean (Ruda) Hartshorn, and her husband, Willard of Cheshire. 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Willard M. DeLong, IV; a sister, Barbara J. (Ruda) Ameden and 2 grandchildren, April Dawn DePietro and Meagan Yonhke.A memorial service will be held on Thursday Aug 2nd at 4 p.m., at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 70 Central Ave. Burial will be in New Pine Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
