Obituary of Charles Benoit

Charles Arthur Benoit, 86, of Cheshire, died Monday July 30, 2007 at the Meriden Center. He was the husband of Isabelle (Renardson) Benoit. Mr. Benoit was born February 28, 1921 in Wallingford, the son of the late Charles and Henrietta (Lahr) Benoit. He was educated in Wallingford schools and at Wilcox Technical School in Meriden and was a retired foreman for AMF Cuno, Meriden and Casco Industries, Bridgeport. He was a skilled toolmaker and enjoyed woodworking and printing avocations. He was also a Mason, a member of the Cheshire United Methodist Church and a long time member of the church choir, well known for his marvelous bass voice. Charlie also performed with the Cheshire Community Chorus in numerous musical productions. He was a veteran of WWII, serving his country in the U.S. Army Infantry, stationed in the Phillipines. While in the military, he was a member of the Male International Chorus of the South Pacific. Above all, Mr. Benoit was a gentle, kind and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Besides his wife of 65 years, he leavesa daughter Diane Deering and her husband David of Hollis, ME; a daughter Jean Burt and her husband Jim of Meriden; a son Douglas Benoit and his wife Lisa of Granby; a brother Henry Benoit of Meriden; seven grandchildren, Alison Burt of Culver City, CA, Caroline Burt of Beverly Hills, CA, Elizabeth Deering of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Abigail Deering of New York City, NY, Emily Deering of Meadville, PA, Katherine Benoit and Jack Benoit of Granby, and several nieces and nephews. The Benoit family would like to offer their sincere appreciation and thanks to the staff of the 200 wing at the Meriden Center, 845 Paddock Ave. for their kindness, care and affection for Charlie during his residency.Arrangements A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Sunday August 5, 2007 at the Cheshire United Methodist Church, 205 Academy Rd. Friends are invited to join the family following the service in the church hall for a period of fellowship and refreshment. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Walnut Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions in Mr. Benoits memory may be made to the Cheshire United Methodist Church. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire 242 S. Main St. is assisting with arrangements.
