Obituary of Frederick Haney
Fred Ira Haney, 88, of Patton Drive and formerly of New Haven, entered into eternal rest at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden after a short illness on Tuesday August 7, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Marion Haney. They would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on August 15th. Mr. Haney was born October 23, 1918 in New Haven the son of the late Frederick L. and Ida (Heath) Haney. He was a member of the City Point Yacht Club and the Cheshire Grange. Fred worked for the Former American Steel and Wire Company before opening his own business, "Fred Haneys Radiator Repair Shop in the late 1940s until his retirement in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army 752nd Tank Battalion, 88th Armored Division in 1945 through 1946. Besides his wife of 70 years, Mr. Haney is survived by a son Fred M. Haney and his wife Claudette of West Haven; a grandson Scott Haney and his wife Theresa of New Milford; two granddaughters Kim Berglund and her husband Joe of Wolcott, and Stacy Mitchell and her husband Jimmy of Richmond, VA; three great grandchildren Sean and Ryan Berglund and Hunter Mitchell. He was predeceased by his brothers Harold, Clarence and James Haney.Arrangements A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., Cheshire. Burial will follow in Billings Hill Cemetery, East Longmeadow, MA. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
