Obituary of John Garrigus

WOLCOTT - John C. "Skip Garrigus, 75, of Garrigus Court, passed away Monday Aug. 13, 2007 after a short illness. He was the husband of Lucille (Hodges) Garrigus.He was born Oct. 20, 1931 in Waterbury,, CT, son of the late Leland and Mae (Creer) Garrigus and was a graduate of Crosby High School. He graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering from UCONN. He retired in 1992 from Bristol Babcock Co. where he worked for 43 years. Throughout his life he was actively involved with IEEE, the development of international electrical standards. He was a member of Harmony Lodge # 42 A.F. & A.M. and also was affiliated with Wolcott Lodge # 146 A.F. & A.M. He also served as a trustee and Chairman of the Board of the Pine Grove Cemetery Association. He was a lifelong member of the Moll Plain Union Church. He was very proud to live and raise his family at Maple Wood Farm, the family ancestral homestead. As a boy he acquired the nickname 'Skip' when he was the mascot for the Mattatuck Drum Band. During his retirement he enjoyed his grandchildren's sporting events, helping with their science projects and gardening with his beloved dog Mr. B. Besides his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his children Mark and Karen (Della Bella) Garrigus, Karen and Daniel Lang, Paul and Lori (Vigue) Garrigus, Peter and Patricia (Hunt) Garrigus, grandchildren Daniel, Joseph, Robert, Adam, Ashley, Sam, Olivia and Benjamin Garrigus, Damian, Danelle and Marisa Lang and a great-granddaughter Makyla Philips; also several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mona Garrigus Manes. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be on Friday Aug. 17 at 10 am at Mill Plain Union Church, 242 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury with burial to follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Calling hours will be held Thursday Aug. 16 from 5 to 7 pm at Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 70 Central Ave., John's family would like to thank the staff at the Harold Leever Cancer Center and the VNA.
