Obituary of Shirley Burns

Mrs. Shirley Amelia ( McGuire) Burns, 86, of Dewberry Rd., Waterbury, died Thursday afternoon Aug. 30, 2007, at the Glendale Center in Naugatuck. She was the wife of the late, George Edgar Burns who died in 2001. Mrs. Burns was born in Waterbury, July 18, 1921, a daughter of the late Raymond and Amelia (Luebeck) McGuire and was a life long Waterbury resident. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Crosby High School. During World War II she worked in the Drafting Dept. at Lewis Engineering Dept. in Naugatuck. Following her marriage she raised her family. She was a member of the Mill Plain Union Church and was active in many of the church activities. She was a member of the Ladies Guild and taught Sunday school at the church. She leaves two daughters, Linda R. Burns of Southington and Kathleen J. Bundy of Waterbury and one grandson, Patrick Bundy. She had many other children who called her GrandmaFuneral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Mill Plain Union Church. Burial will be in new Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 70 Central Ave. on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions in her memory be made to the Mill Plain Union Church Memorial Endowment Fund, 242 Southmayd Rd, Waterbury, 06705.
