Obituary of Ruth Norton

Ruth Hine Norton, 77, of Academy Rd., passed away surrounded by her family, on Friday September 7, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of Donald B. Norton Sr. Mrs. Norton was born June 17, 1930 in Orange the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Jessie (Sperry) Hine and attended New Haven Teachers College. She was the owner and operator of Happy Time Nursery School in Cheshire for over 30 years where she loved and cared for all the children she looked after. Mrs. Norton was a 50 year member of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire where she was a member of the Colonizers Group. She was a former member of the Junior Womens Club, a Brownie Leader and a long time Cheshire resident. Mrs. Norton is survived by her two daughters Carolyn Sleczek and her husband Joseph of Boyleston, MA and Virginia Casey and her husband William Jr. of Cheshire; a brother Walter S. Hine and his wife Dorothy of Orange; four grandchildren Lara Maira and Jeffrey, Erin and Brett Casey; two great grandchildren Kelsey and Kyler Maira; her dear friend Helen; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sons Donald Jr. and WalterArrangements A funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Slater Funeral Home 242 S. Main St. Cheshire. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
