Obituary of Mildred Simpson

Mrs. Mildred H. (Hansen) Simpson, 92, formerly of 180 Scott Road, Waterbury passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 19, 2007 at Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck. She was the widow of Harry A. Simpson, who died in 1977. Mildred was born December 6, 1914 in Waterbury a daughter of the late Olaf A. and Alida A. (Larsen) Hansen and was a lifelong Waterbury resident. She attended Mulcahy Grammar School and was a 1933 graduate of Wilby High School. She was employed as a secretary in the shipping department of Somers Thin Strip for 23 years until her retirement in 1980. Mildred was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling and crocheting. She also belonged to the South Waterbury Senior Citizens Group which met on Mondays at South Congregational Church. She was a lifelong member of South Congregational Church and was active in the Womens Association there until her illness made it impossible for her to attend meetings. Mildred also remained a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Winona Rebekah Lodge # 8. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley A. Barkasy and her husband Michael Barkasy, III of Wolcott, her precious grandchildren, Michele T. (Barkasy) Binion and her husband Daniel of Wildwood, FL, Michael Barkasy, IV and his wife Christina of Cheshire and Matthew J. Barkasy of Wolcott, 5 great grandchildren, Aaron R. Barkasy, Michael Barkasy, V, Kayla A. Barkasy, Tamara A. Barkasy and Joshua D. Binion as well as several nieces and nephews. Mildred was the last member of her immediate family being predeceased by 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Funeral services for Mildred will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at South Congregational Church 160 Piedmont Street in Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. Family and friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury 70 Central Ave. Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wolcott Commission for the Handicapped in care of Maureen Andrade 544 Spindle Hill Road Wolcott, CT. 06716.
