Obituary of Lloyd George

Lloyd George, 88, of Main St. South and formerly of South St. Middlebury died Thursday November 8, 2007 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Vivian (Minor) George.Mr. George was born December 30, 1918 in Bayonne, NJ the son of the late Frank and Ethel (Foster) George. He was a long time Middlebury resident before moving to Southbury last year.Mr. George was a WWII Army veteran obtaining the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service. Mr. George was very active in his community. He served as a board member of the Middlebury Public Library from 1984 until 1997; the Middlebury Board of Education; the United Way of Greater Waterbury; and as a trustee and treasurer for Westover School.Mr. George was a comptroller for Scovill Inc. in Waterbury until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church where he served on the church council and was the church treasurer for more than 30 years. He was a choir member at the church for 50 years.Besides his wife of 61 years, Mr. George is survived by his sons Dick and his wife Lissa of Columbia, MD and Don and his wife Kuniko of Piedmont, CA; four grandchildren Libby, Tim, Jenny and Jeremy. Arrangements- A memorial service will be held on Monday November 12, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Middlebury Congregational Church, 1242 Whittemore Rd., Middlebury. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles P. Luckey Jr. Scholarship Fund c/o Middlebury Congregational Church or to an organization of the donors choice. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 70 Central Ave. is in charge of arrangements.
