Obituary of John Solomita
John F. Solomita of Waterbury, died Friday, December 28, 2007, at Waterbury Hospital. He was 81.The son of the late Antonio and Emily (Neil) Solomita, John was born May 10, 1926, in Waterbury, where he attended local schools. He served as dean at La Salette Seminary Junior College in Altamont, NY, from the opening of the institution in 1953 until 1958, during which time he received a masters degree in library science at Albany State Teachers College.In 1960, he joined the Queens Borough Public Library in Jamaica, NY, as branch and bookmobile librarian until 1963, when he was appointed assistant director of personnel and management analysis. In 1973, he was appointed as deputy director, overseeing the librarys fifty-five branches.He is survived by four brothers, Vincent Jimmy Solomita, Anthony Solomita, and Leonard Solomita, all of Waterbury, and Michael Solomita of Bradenton, Fla., and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews from the Solomita, Battaglia, and Keane families.He was predeceased by a brother, Nicola Solomita, and two sisters, Louise Battaglia and Mary Keane. His nephew, the late Captain John Keane, was named after him.Arrangements: Funeral Services will be held Wednesday January 2, 2008 at Mulville Funeral Home 270 West Main St. at 11am. Friends may call the funeral home from 10 A.M until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
