Obituary of Barbara Isaacs
Cheshire Barbara Ruth Thompson Isaacs, 85, formerly of Juniper Lane passed away Thursday January 17, 2008 at Skyview Nursing and Rehab Center. She was the widow of Edward J. Isaacs to whom she was married 61 years. Mrs. Isaacs was born July 2, 1922 in Boston, MA the daughter of the late Clyde and Marion (Leesam) Thompson. She grew up in New Haven before moving to Hamden with her husband in 1945. Barbara was a long time Cheshire resident living in town since 1954. Barbara retired from Aetna Life and Casualty in New Haven where she was employed for 15 years until her office closed in 1982. As a Group Claims Supervisor, she was then employed in the Hartford office for two years as a Benefits Service Representative. Mrs. Isaacs was one of the founding members of the Cheshire Junior Womens Club and was the past president of the Suburban Garden Club of Cheshire. She had also served as a volunteer for many Red Cross Blood drives. She was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Cheshire and an active parishioner of St. Peters Episcopal Church serving as a member of the Altar Ministry. Barbara was an avid Red Sox fan and usually was wearing something Red Sox. She loved getting into verbal confrontations with Yankee fans and was known to get into those confrontations at Everybodys Market and the Waverly Tavern. In fact she was named The Red Sox Girl by her friends at the Waverly. Mrs. Isaacs is survived by her two sons, Edward J. Isaacs Jr. and his wife Pat of Stuart, FL and Richard H. Isaacs and his wife Cindy of Huntsville, AL; a daughter Linda Isaacs of Wallingford; a half sister Judith Kusmit of North Haven; four grandchildren Megan and Matthew Northrop of Wallingford, Jacqueline Isaacs of Stuart, FL, Gregory Isaacs of Charlotte, NC, and Todd Tripoli of Lakeland, FL; two great grandchildren Cassandra Northrop and Matthew Northrop Jr. of Wallingford. She was predeceased by her son John C. Isaacs.Arrangements Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 59 Main St, Cheshire. Burial will follow in St. Peters Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., Cheshire.
