Obituary of Leola Wnuck

Leola J. (Sponholtz) Wnuck, age 82 of Cheshire, Connecticut, died on Wednesday morning, February 13, 2008 in a local hospital. She was the beloved wife of George P. Wnuck. Born in Oak Park, Illinois on May 19, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Edna (Voltz) Sponholtz. Leola married her husband George during World War II while he was serving in the Air Force. She and George lived in a number of communities in the United States and abroad including, Chicago, Illinois, Aurora, Indiana, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Toledo, Ohio, Germany, Mexico, and Westborough, Massachusetts. After George retired, they resided in West Barnstable, Massachusetts, Glastonbury and Cheshire, Connecticut. Leola was a member of the Cheshire Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, was an avid reader, had an interest in politics and world affairs, and kept in touch with friends and family across the country. Leola is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, George P. Wnuck of Cheshire, her children Sandra Martin and her husband Michael of Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, Cynthia Cornelius and her husband Russell of Brookfield, Connecticut, Wayne Wnuck and his wife Donna of South Windsor, Connecticut, David Wnuck and his wife Lisa of Cheshire, her beloved grandchildren Stefanie, Kristen, Anne, Thomas, Christi Kennedy and her husband Robert of Pascoag, Rhode Island, her great-grandchildren Colin and Brady, her sister Laverne Moak of Chattanooga, Tennessee, her brother Lloyd Sponholtz and his wife Charlotte of Lawrence Kansas, her sister-in-law Edith Wnuck, her nieces and nephews Scott, Todd, Pamela, Cheri, Sally Jo Eagan and her husband Dennis of Cary, North Carolina, Donald Moak and his wife Kathy of Hixson Tennessee.Funeral services for Leola will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Cheshire Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Slater Funeral Home 242 South Main Street.
