Obituary of William Hurley
William D O. M. Hurley, age 87, of Marion Rd, Cheshire, CT , passed away peacefully on Holy Thursday March 20, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Mary P. (King) Hurley (formerly of Medford, MA), with whom he spent 58 years. Born on September 17, 1920 in South Boston, MA, Mr. Hurley was the devoted son of the late Michael J. and Nora B. (Murphy) Hurley and the loving brother of the late Margaret Hurley. In 1938, Mr. Hurley graduated from Boston Latin High School and later earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. He served as a longtime class representative for the Boston Latin School Class of 1938. During World War II, William O. M. Hurley admirably served his country while in the Navy stationed in New Guinea and the South West Pacific on the U.S.S. Banner class attack transport. Upon his honorable discharge, Mr. Hurley was employed by the Shell Oil Company as a Division Auditor and Engineer. Later in his career, Mr. Hurley worked independently as a Management Consultant under his own franchise of the E.K Williams Co. Subsequently, after years of State service, Mr. Hurley retired as Principal Auditor of the Connecticut Auditors of Public Accountants. As an active community member of Cheshire and an avid sports enthusiast, William O. M. Hurley coached both Junior Football and Cheshire Baseball. Mr. Hurley was a former Knight of the Knights of Columbus and previously taught C.C.D. at the St. Bridget Church. Besides being a board member and financial advisor for the Church of the Epiphany council, Mr. Hurley was a dedicated communicant. From 1970 until 1972, he acted as President of the Connecticut Chapter of the Boston/New England Patriots Quarterback Club. Besides his loving wife, Mr. Hurley is survived by his two sons Michael G. Hurley of Wilmington, MA and his wife Alicia (McCormack) and Timothy J. Hurley of North Berwick, ME; his three daughters Noreen M. Hurley-Storace of Brighton, MA and her husband Frank, Mary Beth Hurley of Cheshire, CT, and Dorothy T. King of Ogunquit, ME. Mr. Hurley will also be dearly missed by his five grandchildren, Casey Storace, Kerry Storace, Tabitha Bower, Nancy Hurley, and William Hurley. Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 25, 2008 9:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., Cheshire to Church of the Epiphany for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
