Obituary of George Vincent
Mr. George M. Vincent, 90, of Beacon Manor Rd., Naugatuck, died Wednesday morning June 18, 2008 at Marathon Healthcare Center of Prospect. He was the husband of the late Vivian Louise (Bott) Vincent, who died in 1995. Mr. Vincent was born in Naugatuck, Oct. 16, 1917, a son of the late Percy and Bertha Helena Lena (Lawson) Vincent and had been a lifelong Naugatuck resident. He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 797th Military Police Co., having served in the Pacific Theater of operations, from 1941 through 1945. He was first employed by W. J. Megin and then Homer D. Bronson Co. of Beacon Falls, until his retirement. Following his retirement, he spent several summers in Damariscotta, Main, managing a boat and bait shop at a camping area on Lake Pemaquid. He was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan, fisherman and wood worker, He donated several hand made wooden toys to various charities over the years, together with knitted items made by his late wife, Vivian. He was a member of Crusader Post 1946, V.F.W., the Naugatuck Historical society, the Naugatuck Senior Center, and the Fishermans Club of America. He leaves two daughters Beth (Vincent) (Lyons) Lafontaine and her husband David of Naugatuck, and Christine Vincent of Fowler, Colo.; one sister, Beatrice Broderick of Prospect; 3 grandchildren, Sean Lyons and his wife Jamie of Naugatuck, George Macary of Rife, Colo. And Bruce Macary of Waterville, Me.; 5 Great-Grandchildren, Michelle Lyons, Aidan Lyons, Nolen Lyons, Vincent Macary and Mary Macary and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ethel Callahan and Hazel Aurish. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 210 Church St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Military funeral honors will be accorded at the church following the service. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is in charge of arrangements.
