Obituary of Russell McMillen
Mr. Russell G. McMillen, 90, of 96 Crest Rd., Middlebury, died Monday morning July 7, 2008 at his home. He was the husband of the late Josephine (Portong) McMillen who died in 2003. Mr. McMillen was born in Bridgeville, Pa., June 27, 1918, a son of the late Charles and Hilda (Gross) McMillen and had been a Middlebury resident for over 40 years. He was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering and was the retired President and Chairman of Board of the Eastern Co., with corporate offices in Naugatuck, where he had been associated for many years, until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church, and had been active in the business community for many years having served on the Board of Directors of Peter Paul, Inc. and the Colonial Bank and Trust and the Mattatuck Museum. He was a member of the Waterbury Club, The Highfield Club of Middlebury and the East Haddam Fish and Game Club. He was a former member of the Country Club of Waterbury. He leaves one son, Jeffrey R. McMillen of Issaquah, Wash.; two daughters, Stephanie Gruber of Denver, Colo., and Meridie Comfort of Ft. Mitchell, Ky.; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by another daughter, Lois L. McMillen, A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Middlebury Congregational Church, 1242 Whittemore Rd. Burial will be private in Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington, L.I. N.Y. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is in charge of arrangements.
