I visited the shop today thinking that Shirley had decided to retire to spend more time with her family, only to find out that she had passed away. I was speechless, but I did extend my sympathy to her daughter who was at the shop today. Shirley was definitely a lady in every sense of the word. I know that she will be missed by her family whom she spoke of frequently on my visits to the shop. Her warm smile and her great rapport with everyone she came in contact with made her someone who was loved by all. She will be sadly missed by so many people. I will remember her and your family in my thoughts and prayers. May the memories of all the great times that you spent together help you to get through this difficult time in your lives. Rosemarie

To Shirley's Family~ My sincere sympathy to you for the passing of such a great lady. When my daughters and I started the CUREchief Foundation over 8 years ago, Shirley welcomed me warmly at the Fabric Gallery and gave us so much support, her support and belief in our charity was what helped us start our mission. We have delivered over 100,000 CUREchiefs (soft fabric headcoverings) worldwide and brought HOPE to thos suffering with cancer. God Bless Shirley always for what she did for us~ Very Sincerely, Sandra Centorino The CUREchief Foundation Cheshire, CT

I was so saddened to learn of Shirley's passing. I have been one of her many customers over the years. She was always so warm and helpful. She took the time to help you with any kind of question. That kind of customer service is rare these days. Our community will not be the same without her. My deepest condolences to all her family.

Dear Larry and family, It is with great sadness that we extend or sincere condolences at the passing of Shirley. We have been neighbors for a long time and our children were school friends over many years. We discovered several years AGO that we were married on the same day, so long ago. A family member sent us a copy of our wedding announcement from the New Haven Register-Shirley's and your announcement was on the same page-10-12-63. I spoke to Shirley about that, and we had one of those special moments of 'OH,MY GOD'. We were shocked to see the ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE paper and deeply moved, as we feel so connected in so many ways.... If there is any thing we can do to help you please let us know. 272-8692. Our thoughts and prayers go up for you and your family. Love, Judy& Bill Juul 1160 Notch Rd. Cheshire,Ct.

My thoughts and prayers to Shirley's family. I thoroughly enjoyed Shirley and her vast knowledge and love of sewing. She taught me so much and encouraged me to move to the next level in sewing. She was so patient and willing to share new techniques to me and the other Bernina Club members. She was so proud of all her family and shared so many events with us. Carolyn Stephenson

I wish to send my deepest sympathy to Shirley's entire family. I used to work with her at Winchester. She was very kind to me when I was going through a bad time in my life. I haven't seen her in over twenty years--but I always remember how she helped me. I remember saying to her, 'Shirley how can I repay you for being so kind to me while I'm going through this?' You know what her answer was? 'Just do the same for someone one day.' And, I do. I never forgot those words. God bless and keep you. She was a wonderful person and I was fortunate to have known her.

I have known Shirley for about 25 years since she opened her first Bernina shop. She was always generous with her knowledge and kindness to me. A wonderful woman who had wisdom in her thinking and helping me and all the sewers. A tremendous loss to me and to all who knew her. She loved her family-was proud of their accomplishments and especially proud of her grandchildren. She will be missed. My prayers are for the family during this sad period.

As one of Shirley's customers at Fabric Gallery, I was impressed always by the kindness that she extended to all of her customers, even her long-lost onces (like me)! Her ideals were ones that I know I would strive toward. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of great grief. Thank you for sharing your Wife, Mom, and Grandma with all of us customers. Kathy Ryzewski

To all of Shirley's family, I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Shirley through the shop. I greatly appreciated her vast sewing knowledge from sewing machines to material. Whether in the shop or on the phone she shared her passion of this and helped guide me to a successful outcome. It was great to see her smile widen and her face become more animated as she spoke of her children and grandchild. She was clearly very proud of all of you. May you find peace in your memories at this difficult time. Sincerely, Susan Varanka
