Michael, I'm sure it's been since high school that we last talked. I just thought it was interesting that our Dad's passed on the same day. A few years ago I went to China and before I went I spent a good deal of time talking to your Dad about the trip. He was a sweet and gentle person. He will be missed. My best to you and your family. To the Marut Family: I just learned of your dad's passing, I am so sorry. I remember your dad from years ago, he was always cheerful and I enjoyed hearing his stories about his time in the Army Air Corps. I always thought you were the nicest family I knew. May God bless and keep you all well and know that others are thinking of you at this difficult time. Sincerely, Wes Alexander

Our deepest sympathy to the Marut family. We are one of the many families that were priveleged to know Walter through his devoted volunteer work at Highland School in Cheshire. Walter always greeted us with a smile and a warm heart. Over the 6 years of knowing him, he shared many inspiring stories with us. Many about his past work experiences, his values about education, his love for his family, and many just about life in general. His wisdom was admirable and his positive attitude infectious. When students moved on from Highland, Walter would write them a persoanl note of encouragement and give them a keepsake quarter. He was a kind, compassionate man and a role model to others. We feel blessed that he was a part of our lives.

Dear Paula & family, I happened to be looking up the obituary for a former neighbor and I see that your Dad has passed away last week. I'm so very sorry to read this news and I have called my Dad tonight to tell him. My parents had moved away from Cheshire 2 1/2 years ago, but they certainly remember your father in such a special way. I have such wonderful memories of both your parents in St. Bridget's. May your memories help you through this sad time.

I had the pleasure of knowing your father for over 20 years. I was the Registrar of Voters in Cheshire from 1986-1999 and your Dad was one of our Elections Officials. He always had a pleasant word and that wonderful smile of his could not help but brighten my day whenever or where ever I saw him. I was so sorry to read of his passing. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I held your father in very high regard and have thought of him often over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with Mike, Chris (and his Studebaker), Margie, Paula and Sarah. My son attends the University of Vermont, so I have tried emailing Paula twice - I don't know if she ever received them. God bless you all. Gary Leveille Great Barrington MA garyleve@aol.com

Walter crossed my kids at Highland School since 1997. I always remebered seeing him everyday rain or shine, sleet or wind. He cared so much for the kids he crossed. He knew all of them by name and even their parents names. When he left Eastgate my kids were very sad, but had great memories of him taking care of them. God Bless him. He has been and will continue to be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! The Michaud Famly!

Walter Marut’s style of generosity made a huge difference in many lives, as he tirelessly gave of himself. Whenever Walt sensed that someone needed help, he wouldn’t wait for a request - he’d offer to provide whatever was needed – and always found a excuse for not wanting to be compensated. My folks & I were lucky enough to live a few houses up from Walt. As they aged, he made it His duty take them shopping, bring them their newspaper & mail, shovel their driveway, and patiently look in on them daily. They were but one of many neighbors that he cared for. He now joins those whose lives he’s touched, and whose burdens he’s lifted. Walt, for those of us who remain, we are eternally grateful to have had the privilege to have known and loved you. Peter
