Obituary of Charles Sherman

NEW MILFORD- Charles W. Sherman 80, formally of Naugatuck passed away peacefully on February 25th in Tampa Florida with his family by his side. Charlie was born on July 9, 1929 in Waterbury, a son of the late Maurice and Martha (Levitsky) Sherman. He was a 1947 graduate of Crosby High School, a 1951 graduate of the College of Agriculture at the University of Connecticut and proudly served his country in the United States Army achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was the owner of Sherman Florist and Greenhouses in Naugatuck and also worked as a foreman in the footwear division of Uniroyal in Naugatuck and CHR Industries in New Haven. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookfield and a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Naugatuck. He was a member of the Naugatuck Garden Club and Valley Vagabonds walking group. He had a passion for gardening, was a consummate handyman, enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing golf with his children and grandchildren, hiking and traveling the world with his wife. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years Edith (Schaaf) Sherman, six children and thirteen grandchildren: William, his wife Deborah and children William, Brian and John of Cheshire, David, his wife Patricia and children David. and Daniel of Naugatuck, Maude Chasse, her husband Raymond and children Rachel and Eric of Woodbury, Paul of Andover Kansas, Charles Jr., his wife Susan and children Airman 1st Class Charles III, David and Kristine of Naugatuck and Clare Zimmitti, her husband Erik and children Jason, Ryan and Adam of New Milford. He was predeceased by a brother Maurice . and a sister Barbara Wilke. A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 5, 2010 at Prince of Peach Lutheran Church, 119 Junction Rd., Brookfield. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the charity of your choice.
