Obituary of Stanley DeWitt

NAUGATUCK- Mr. Stanley A. DeWitt, 77 of Naugatuck, passed away early Tuesday morning May 24, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of Jeannette R. (Wormwood) DeWitt who passes away in 2005 after 51 years of marriage. He was born in Passadumkeag, Maine, Feb. 14, 1934, a son of the late George and Marion (Coleman) DeWitt and had been a Naugatuck resident since 1984 first settling in Beacon Falls in the late 1950's. He was a Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was a member of American Legion Post # 17 of Naugatuck, and was a retired employee of the Prospect Machine Products, Inc., retiring in 1983 with over 20 years of service. Stanley loved his family and his dog. They were his life. He was very proud of both. He loved God and his country and proudly flew an American made Flag. He didn't practice Christianity, he lived it. He also was knowledgeable in American history and would share it with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed music: gospel, he played at least every Sunday and "real" country music every day. He also enjoyed watching sports, playing cards, and was a master at cribbage. When he was able, he enjoyed gardening. He was Dad" and "Grandpa" to many more than the bloodline drew, to at least two generations of our friends and neighbors. Stanley had high ethics and he always did his best at anything he attempted. To quote him, "If you're not going to do your best, don't bother doing it". He leaves 4 daughters; Esther Ruocco and her husband Daniel, Edith Hart and her husband Donald, all of Naugatuck, Elaine DeWitt of Prospect and Ellie Jones of Naugatuck; two sisters, Helen Boisvert and Marlene Locke both of Maine; 7 grandchildren, Jason Ganavage and his wife Marge, April Ruocco, Jessica Gendron, Melissa Ruocco, Daniel Ruocco, Michael Garbatini, and Beth Knapp; 3 great-grandchildren, Robert Dyer, Emily Dyer and Skylar Ganavage.
