Obituary of James W. Carroll

James W. Carroll, age 94, of Waterbury entered into rest on Friday, July 18, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of 55 years to the late Monica (Plungis) Carroll. James was born on July 17, 1920 in Waterbury, son of the late James J. and Bridget (Boucher) Carroll, and has been a Waterbury resident for all of his life. He was a graduate of Crosby High School, Class of 1938 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Jim was a firefighter for 27 years and retired as Lieutenant from the Field Street Station in 1978 and was also employed by Michaels Jewelers and was the Assistant Manager for the Firefighters Credit Union. He was a member of the Waterbury Elks Lodge 265 and the VFW Post 7790, Past President of the WFD Union and Treasurer of the Waterbury Fire and Police Retiree Association. Jim was a lifelong Boston Red Sox Fan and enjoyed the UCONN Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams. Jim is the beloved father of Diane Carroll of Quincy, MA and William Carroll and his wife Susan of Berlin, CT; Loving grandfather of Emily and Megan Carroll. He was predeceased by his brother Peter “Skeets” Carroll. Jim’s family would like to express their gratitude to all of Jim’s caregivers during his illness, especially to Ann Marie, Donna and Mary for their devoted kindness and compassion. Friends are invited to meet directly at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 W. Main St., Waterbury, CT 06702 on Monday, July 21, 2014 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM. Jim’s burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 270 W. Main St.,(In the Mulville building) Waterbury, CT 06702, on Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 5PM to 7PM.
