Obituary of Joan B Chapman
Joan B. Chapman, age 78, of Cheshire entered into rest on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Dr. John Chapman. Joan was born on January 23, 1936 in New Haven, daughter of the late John and Lillian (Pedersen) Baldwin, and has been a longtime Cheshire resident.
Joan worked as a secretary in the Facilities Department at Yale University until her retirement. She rooted for the NY Mets and was a passionate sports writer, having her own sports blog. Joan was active in the choir at St. Peter’s Church and would knit afghan blankets in her spare time to donate to Project Linus.
She is the beloved mother of Frank Podgwaite and his wife Penny of North Haven and Michael Podgwaite and his fiancée Anne Neville of Cheshire; loving sister of John Baldwin, Jr. of Columbia, MD and Jean Shay of Cheshire; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Joan will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:30AM in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 59 Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410. Interment will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with her arrangements.
