Obituary of M. Denise Kennedy

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother WATERBURY- M. Denise Kennedy, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2016 surrounded by loving family at Vitas Innovative Health Care at Saint Mary’s Hospital. Denise was pre-deceased by her husband of 45 years Edwin J. Kennedy, and daughter, Colleen Kennedy. Denise was born in Waterbury on February 23, 1926, daughter of Mae Clifford Turgeon and John H. Turgeon. A lifelong Waterbury resident, and communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, she graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School, Class of 1943. Denise retired from Centerbank, Waterbury, after an exceptional 28 years of service to her banking customers. She was a member of the American Institute of Banking, a lifelong member of the Greenbackers Club and a member of the Waterbury Women’s Club and the Waterbury Garden Club. Denise thoroughly enjoyed being a volunteer at Saint Mary’s Hospital for 12 years. She was an avid reader, and loved to knit and crochet. She and her husband were travelling followers of UCONN Women’s basketball, enjoyed long rides to anywhere and cherished time with their wonderful 3 grandchildren. Denise had a knack for putting people at ease with her constant smile and comfortable conversations. She truly appreciated people, always finding the best in each person she came to know. Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her daughter Karen K. Rubano and son-in-law Lou Rubano; and 3 grandchildren Michael, Mark and Megan. Family, neighbors, and friends will miss Denise’s smile, good humor and kindness. Her family appreciates the loving and quality care provided by the Vitas Hospice team, Hartford Home Health Care team, and the outstanding nurses, aides and doctors at Saint Mary’s Hospital. A heartfelt thank you is extended to her doctor and friend of 40 years, Dr. Roberto Gobbee. Loving appreciation is expressed to the care provided by her home health aides Nilda, Sheila and Yolanda who helped Denise fulfill her wish of staying at home over the past year.
