Obituary of George A. Ossola

Cheshire – George A. Ossola, Jr., 72, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital, following a short illness. George was born in Torrington, Ct. on June 1, 1943, a son of the late George and Edith Ossola. He is a graduate of Torrington High School, class of ’61. As a young person, he grew up in Harwinton, Ct., where he acquired his love of fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities. He was a longtime resident of Cheshire, where he lived with his wife, Barbara, and his daughter, Margaret. George was a loving and caring husband to Barbara for 42 years, taking care of her as she suffered with multiple sclerosis for many years, succumbing to the disease in 2007. As a father, his daughter was the bright spirit in his life that he cherished every day. He was a devoted father to Margaret that he always called “Whoo”. George was an outstanding archer, president of the Hamden Bowmans Club. He was an avid competitor locally and out-of-state for many years. He achieved many outstanding awards through his archery competitions and loved teaching others the art of the bow. Lately, he was involved in developing a new archery range at the New Haven Sportsmen Club. George was employed by the Town of Cheshire for over 30 years, retiring as the Assistant Public Works Director in 2003. Upon his retirement, George opened a flower, herb and vegetable business. In the winter, he made Christmas wreaths and designed cemetery pillows for community members and businesses. While this is a time of sadness for those who loved George, he would want to be remembered for his strength, creativity and love of the outdoors. George is survived by his daughter, Margaret Ossola , and her significant other, Dan Yaroch of Cheshire, a sister, Lucinda Ossola of New Hampton, N.H. and adopted sister, Martha Perry, of New Hampton, N.H.
