Obituary of Charles J. McGovern
CHESHIRE – Charles J. McGovern, 86, passed away Monday October 3, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Patricia (Melville) McGovern.
Mr. McGovern was born October 2, 1930 in New York, NY, the son of the late Charles V. and Margaret L. McGovern. He served his country for over 24 years as an active member of the United States Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of master sergeant. He received six medals for service and devotion to his country. Upon his retirement he was employed by American Cyanimide in Wallingford for 20 years. After that he worked for Richard’s Chevrolet in Cheshire. Along with his wife, he was a communicant of St. Bridget Church where he was also a lector.
Besides his wife of 62years, Mr. McGovern, known as Jim to his family and friends, is survived by his children Jerome and his wife Janice of Wrentham Massachusetts, Charles of Cheshire Connecticut, Kevin and his wife Jane of Framingham Massachusetts, Patricia of Cheshire Connecticut, and Richard and his wife Pauline of Augusta Maine; as well as his 10 grandchildren and one great grandson. He is predeceased by his siblings John, Lew and Margaret.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Friday October 7, 2016, 10:15 a.m. from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St., to St. Bridget Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Calling will be held on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
