Obituary of Richard F. Fadus
CHESHIRE - Richard F. “Dick” Fadus, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 26, 2016.
Dick was born on October 5, 1928 in Waterbury, the son of the late Charles and Margaret (Pulaski) Fadus. His siblings were an older brother Charles of Newtown, and a younger sister JoAnn (Fadus) Gizzi (deceased).
After serving his country in the Korean War as a surveyor in the U.S. Army 8221st Field Artillery Unit, Dick married Marie Iadarola of New Haven in 1955. They purchased a home in the Brooksvale area of Cheshire, where they lived for the 61 years, raising a family of 5 children.
Dick was an employee for 44 years with National Cash Register, and a communicant of St. Thomas Becket Roman Catholic Church. He was an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 90 Boy Scouts where his sons were members. For his quiet and steadfast support of the Catholic Church, he was awarded the St. Joseph Medal by the Archbishop of Hartford. For many years, he and fellow Korean War unit veterans met regularly around the country, maintaining strong friendships across the miles.
Dick was “Mr. Fix It” to his family, neighbors, friends, and relatives, always claiming (but generally having) “a better idea” for projects large and small. By all rights, Home Depot and Lowes should be in mourning for the passing of such a loyal and frequent customer.
A gregarious man, Dick would strike up conversations with just about anyone. In his later years, this included the nice people at Costco handing out food samples. Because his work fixing cash registers took him to villages and stores scattered across southern Connecticut, he knew back roads and shortcuts that are still a mystery to programmers for Google maps.
Besides his wife Marie (Iadarola) Fadus of 61 years, Dick is survived by his sons Richard J. Fadus and his wife Doreen (Witkop) Fadus of Hampden, MA, Charles Fadus and his wife Judy (O’Brien) Fadus of Midlothian, VA and Michael Fadus and his partner Urs Märchy of Oberägeri, Switzerland, Joseph Fadus and his wife Drusilla (Davis) Fadus of Marietta, GA, and his beloved daughter Amy (Fadus) Radikas and her husband Raymond of Glastonbury.
In addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, he is also survived by his brother Charles and sister-in-law Jean (Cahill) Fadus of Newtown, brother-in-law Richard Iadarola of Southbury as well as his nine grandchildren: Ricky, Matthew and wife Brigid (Townley) Fadus, Ryan, Jack, Margaret, Jim and Katie Fadus, and Paulina and Marla Radikas.
Besides being predeceased by his sister JoAnn (Fadus) Gizzi. Dick was also predeceased by his brother-in-law Ralph Iadarola and sister-in-law Judy (Dalton) Iadarola.
