Obituary of Ernest A. DiPietro

Cheshire-Ernest A. DiPietro 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2017, at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden.

Mr. DiPietro was born February 27, 1944, in Chicago, Il., the son of the late Ernest and Mathilda (Errico) DiPietro Sr. Ernest was a graduate of Croft High School in Waterbury and the University of New England, in Biddeford Me. He earned his Master’s Degree at the University of Hartford and his Advanced Standards Degree in Education from Fairfield University.  He was a retired teacher for the Wolcott School System and faculty member of Mattatuck Community College. He served, with honor, in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. Ernest’s passion was politics and sports, especially the New York Mets and Jets.

Mr. DiPietro dedicated his life to public service. Ernest’s memberships and affiliations include: Chairman of Cheshire Democratic Town Committee for 30 years, American Legion Commander, R.A. Storrs Post 92, Cheshire Kiwanis Club, Sons and Daughters of Italy, North Haven, Waterbury Knights of Columbus, Waterbury Elks Lodge, UNICO of Waterbury, Cheshire Land Trust, Cheshire Historical Society, the Friends of Cheshire Library and the former Wilsonian Club of New Haven. He also served on various Town Committee positions and was a member of the Cheshire Democratic Women’s Club.

Mr. DiPietro is survived by his wife of 46 years, D. Carol (Iovanna) DiPietro, his brother-in-law, William Iovanna, and his wife Judy, his nephews, William Iovanna, and his wife Kari, and Christopher Iovanna, and his wife, Aileen. He will also be missed by his five great-nieces and great-nephews, and several cousins.

Arrangements – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017, at St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 North Brooksvale Rd. Cheshire CT. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow at St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Higgins Road, Cheshire. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. Memorial contributions, in Mr. DiPietro’s name, may be made to University of New England, C/O Scholarship Fund (memo section in memory of Ernie DiPietro), 716 Stevens Avenue, Portland, ME 04103.
