Obituary of Roselyn Fay Zackin
MIDDLEBURY- Roselyn Fay Zackin, 84, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018, in the VITAS Inpatient Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of Nelson K. Zackin to whom she was married for 61 years.
Mrs. Zackin was born May 8, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of the late Manuel and Tilly (Hirsch) Lax.
Roz graduated from Crosby High School in 1952. She attended RussellSage College before transferring to Syracuse University to finish her BS in Speech Pathology in 1956. Later she completed a Masters at University of Connecticut and a sixth year degree at Southern Connecticut State University. In her career in speech pathology, she was very passionate about her students and spent many extra hours working on ways to resolve their issues.
Roz loved outdoor sports, including hiking, skiing, swimming, scuba diving, tennis, and golf. She shared her excitement with her family, exposing her children and grandchildren to her love of the outdoors. Just this June, at 84 years old, she swam a mile, one of her favorite things to do.
Always the hostess, Roz was an amazing baker and entertainer. She made everyone feel welcome and was always interested in hearing about her children’s, grandchildren’s and friends’ exploits, challenges and adventures.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Zackin is survived by her children: Joel Zackin and his wife Celeste Suggs of New Haven, Linda Zackin and her partner, Dennis Weeks, of Alexandria, VA, and Peter Zackin and his wife Leslie of Woodbridge; sister, Estelle Bernstein and her husband, Robert, of New York, NY; and three grandchildren, Michelle, Benjamin, and Daniel.
Arrangements- Funeral will be held 2:30 P.M, Sunday, September 23, 2018 at B’nai Israel, 444 Main St North, Southbury, 06488. Burial will follow at Beth-El Cemetery, Boyden St, Waterbury, 06704. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Donations in Mrs. Zackin’s name can be made to B’nai Israel Synagogue and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
