Dr. Vance High posted a condolence

Dear Janet and "Red" (Hugh),
I just learned of Jane's passing. I have often thought of her when visiting the SPCA and fostering their cats. Please accept my condolences. Jane made me smile and laugh. I loved hearing about her most recent adventure. She and Red made a wonderful couple. She left a wonderful legacy in volunteer work with animals and in the love she gave to her daughters and Red.
Sincerely,
Vance High

On our visits to Charlottesville to see our daughter, Farrell Vangelopoulos,it was always a delightful pleasure to dine with Jane and Red. Such energy, love, enthusiasm and intelligence captured in one petite body. The heavens are in motion now. Peace to you Red. With our love; Tom and Pug Webster

From Jane's emphatic dislike for Charlottesville snobs to her immeasurable love for stray cats....Jane was a character through and through. She called 'em like she saw 'em which could be extremely difficult for those very close to her but was so refreshing to those of us that got to call her a friend. Jane's irreverant take on life, politics, Charlottesville society, and many more topics too numerous to mention often kept us all in stitches. My visits to Jane and Hugh always left me feeling invigorated, intellectually challenged, and "on-game" as you had to keep up with the fast pace of their many thoughts, comments and reactions to the day's news. I will miss Jane and her wit and candor but know she had a great life with Hugh for so many years. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you celebrate Jane's life and greatness..........Nan Maloy

Dear Family, While I did not know Jane well, she was very kind and friendly when my own family was new to the area. My two small children and I would chat with her before and after her long swims at Greencroft Club. I would see her from time to time as I walked along Ridge Road, and she always remembered me when we would pass each other in the grocery store. I am sorry for your loss and grateful for the wonderful life she led and the love she shared with so many.

Dear Red and Family, I don't have to tell you anything about Jane for you know more than I ever could, but I can be someone who confirms her wonderful soul. She gave her kindness, love, and generosity to all who crossed her path, and she did it with a dash of elan and fun. She had a knack for making me want to be a better person. I pray The Lord has you all in his arms and that you will carry on with the same courage and spirit I always witnessed in Jane. Love, Barbara Horn

I am so sad to hear that Jane has left us. She is a woman I have always loved and admired. She made this world a better place. So much love and understanding. I sure hope she left that behind to many to carry on. I know I will try to walk in her ways and carry it forward. I feel a loss like my own family, because that is the way you have always made us feel. Please let Angelo and I know what we can do to help in Charlottesville. Much love from us all.
