Obituary of Jane Lynch

Jane Lees Lynch, 83, recently of Cheshire, CT, passed away after a long illness Saturday, August 17, 2013 at home with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of Hugh Lynch. Jane was born October 9, 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late Justin Dempster and Hazel Beck Lees. Jane and Hugh relocated to Cheshire in December 2012 from Charlottesville, where they had lived for many years. An avid walker and swimmer with a gregarious and generous nature, Jane enjoyed taking in the world with Hughwhether traveling abroad or going out on the town. She loved animals, particularly cats, many of whom she saved from uncertain fates over the years, and she was an active supporter of no-kill animal shelters, including the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. A graduate of Bennington College, Jane had a finely honed and irreverent sense of humor and eclectic taste that embraced classic poetry and horror movies, modern dance and the highland bagpipes. Besides her husband, Hugh, Jane is survived by her daughter Janet L. Lynch of Pownal, ME; her daughter Katharine G. Lynch and her husband Jonathan Clapp of Hamden, CT; her cherished granddaughter, Amelia Jane Maggio, and her brother, John A. Lees and his wife Alice of Winchester, Virginia. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 12PM at St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 N. Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire CT 06410. A reception will follow at Giant Valley Farm in Hamden. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family in Charlottesville, VA in the fall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, https://caspca.org/give/in-honor-ofmemorial-gifts/ or the Wildlife Center of Virginia: http://wildlifecenter.org/support-center. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with her arrangements. To share a story or leave a condolence for the family please visit www.aldersonfuneralhomes.com.
