Obituary of David Roberts
Cheshire - David Stewart Roberts, Jr, 76, of Cheshire, CT, died on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, in Fairfield, CT, as the result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident.
Mr. Roberts was born on February 4, 1932, in Elizabeth, NJ, son of David S. Roberts and Adah Caroline (Holcomb) Roberts. A Korean War veteran, he was a graduate of The Pingry School. He received a BSME from Carnegie Institute of Technology, now Carnegie-Mellon University, and an MBA from Columbia University. Mr. Roberts spent many years consulting in the manufacturing industry and was the founder of Gourmet Gardens, a hydroponic gardening entity for which he had a patented design. An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Roberts was a member for many years of the Tunxis Club in Tolland, MA. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Cheshire for 33 years.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his children, David S. Roberts III and his wife Rita, of Taipei, Taiwan, and William Benjamin Bates Roberts and his wife Rocío, and their children, Joshua and Julie, of Cary, NC, and the mother of his children, Martha Ludwig Roberts, of Charlottesville, Virginia. He is also survived by two sisters, Adah-Grace Roberts Vollmer of Doylestown, PA, and Marcia Roberts Winn of Johnstown, NY, four nephews, David Winn of Westport, CT, Daniel Winn and Peter Winn, of Johnstown, NY, Robert B. Ludwig of Charlottesville, VA; and four nieces, Emily, Patricia, Susannah and Mary Anne Ludwig of Charlottesville, VA. Mr. Roberts was predeceased by two nephews, Stewart Roberts Vollmer and Jonathan Witherspoon Winn.
Arrangements - The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 15, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 59 Main Street, Cheshire. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery, Riverton, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lois Rho Scholarship Fund, Early Intervention Center, Darcey School, 1686 Waterbury Road, Cheshire, CT 06410. The Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St. Cheshire is in charge of arrangements.
