Obituary of Daniel Ort

Daniel Patrick Ort, 70 of Jinny Hill Rd., Cheshire passed away Monday September 3, 2007 at Waterbury Hospital. He was husband of Sharon (Smith) Ort.Dr. Ort was born November 24, 1936 in Fort Wayne Indiana the son of the late Edgar and Marguerite (Brake) Ort. He was a longtime resident of Cheshire where he was very active in the Cheshire Senior Center.Dr. Ort was a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Southern Connecticut State University where he later received his Professor Emeritus status. He was a member of the Connecticut Association of Watercolorist where he displayed his work all over New England.Dr. Ort was also an author who published many pieces for the New York Times as well as poetry. He was an avid musician, movie buff, and fisherman. He also enjoyed many different sports.Besides his wife of 50 years, Dr. Ort is survived by three daughters Laura Dolyak and her husband Craig of Cheshire; Linda Nevins and her husband Frank of Cheshire, Blaire Gagnon and her husband Mark of Kingston, RI; a brother Robert Ort and sister Marilyn Dwire and her husband Phil all of Indiana; seven grandchildren Kelly and Lily Dolyak, Patrick, Conor and Cuinn Nevins and Jessie and Kori Gagnon; and many nieces and nephews.Arrangements A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Becket Church, North Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., Cheshire.
